He is also the founder of the Jewelry Trade Center, the leading gems and jewelry trading center in Asia. As an educator and a businessman, he enjoys a worldwide reputation for his contributions to the gem and jewelry industry. Dr. Gamini Zoysa
Dr. Gamini Zoysa is a notable figure in the gem & jewellery Fraternity. Dr. Zoysa is an Executive Committee Member of the Sri Lanka Gem & Jewellery Association and a Former President and current Executive Committee Member of the Gemmologists Association of Sri Lanka (GASL). Being the Managing Director of Mincraft Company, he is a Member of the Congress Committee and Communications Committee of the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA), as well as serving as the organization’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka. Dr. Zoysa is a Board member for the International Gemmological Conference (IGC). By professional qualification Dr. Zoysa holds Master’s Degree in Geology from the University of Moscow FGA (Gem-A) and G.G. (GIA) gemological graduate and Doctorate in Mineral Exploration from Delft University, Netherlands.
George Spyromilios has more than 25 years of experience in the jewellery industry. In 2002 George created Independent Gemological Laboratory Athens, I.G.L. School of Gemology and I.G.L. Appraisal & Valuation services. Mr. Spyromilios is a member of Association of Independent Jewellery Valuers (AIJV) UK, National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) USA, International Consortium Gem-Testing Laboratories (ICGL) and also a Member of the board of Hellenic Goldsmith Association.
Tay Thye Sun
Tay Thye Sun has been practicing gemology since he graduated from the Gemological Institute of America in 1980. Before he stepped up full time in Gem testing lab work and as an instructor for Gemmologocal studies, he was an experienced gem dealer and doing wholesale and retail jewellery business. Mr. Tay has been the President of Singapore Gemologist Society from 1993 to 2003, and appointed to the Organization of Experts, United National since 1994. Mr. Tay has been a Technical Committee Member of the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA). He is an Executive Board Member of the International Gemological Conference since 2004 and was appointed as Secretary-General.
Dr. Yuri Shelementiev
Dr. Yuri Shelementiev is a renowned expert on diamond synthesis and treatments. Graduated Moscow University ( MSU) in 1993 Dr. Shelementiev completed his Doctoral thesis ( 2000) on Methods of Identification of Synthetic and Treated Diamonds. Dr. Shelementiev joined Gemmological Center of Moscow State University since its founding in 1995 and is engaged in training professionals specialized in diamonds, colored gems, jewellery adornments, diagnostics, expert examination, appraisal and market problems and now works as managing director of MSU Gemmological Center. He is also the President of National Gemmological Association, Russia.
Dr. Hanco Zwaan
Dr. Hanco Zwaan joined the National Museum of Natural History Naturalis, Leiden, the Netherlands, in 1995, as curator of minerals and gems and became head of the Netherlands Gemmological Laboratory soon thereafter. Issuing gem and pearl identification reports, diamond grading reports, and teaching gemmology, is part of his daily work, as well as studying processes in the Earth’s crust that have led to the formation of gemstones. Dr. Zwaan has a PhD from Free University of Amsterdam on Geology, specializing on the formation of emeralds. Apart from this focus on emeralds, he also published articles on a variety of other gemmological and mineralogical topics. Dr. Zwaan is currently president of the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) gemmological commission, dealing with nomenclature issues and laboratory best practices.
Mr. Masaki Furuya
Mr. Masaki Furuya is currently the President of Japan Germany Gemmological Laboratory (JGGL). Mr. Furuya studied Gemmology in Japan, U.S. and Germany. He is the first Japanese diploma student of European Gemmologist of EU. Mr. Masak Furuya is also a Management Graduate (MBA) from Keio University, Japan. Mr. Furuya has immense experience in the field of Gem Mining and apart from the Gem and Jewellery field he has worked as a marketing consultant in Mitsubishi UFJ research and consulting Co,. Ltd. Mr. Furuya also showed on QVC TV shopping for the explanation of rare stones. Sharing the passion with gem lovers is also his philosophy.
Ms. Pornsawat Wathanakul
Dr. Pornsawat Wathanakul former Director of GIT (Gem and Jewellery Institute of Thailand) and Head of the Department of Earth Sciences, Faculty of Science – Kasetsart University, Bangkok, Thailand. Dr. Wathanakul has been the Vice President of Coral Commission at CIBJO-The World Jewellery Confederation and has worked on development of the Coral Blue Book comprehensive documentation classifying both non-treated and treated corals, acceptable trade practices and nomenclature for the coral industry and trade.
Wilawan Atichat [M.Sc.(Geology), GG (GIA), DUG (France)] is the former Director of the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT) from 2005 – 2013. Prior to that, she had worked for the Thailand’s Department of Mineral Resources (Ministry of Industry). She has more than twenty years of extensive experience in gemology and mineralogy. Currently, she is an expert advisor of the Gem and Jewellery Institute of Thailand (GIT).
Dr. Rainer Schultz Guttler
He holds a degree in Mineralogy and Crystallography – Technische Universitaet, (1969) master’s degree in Mineralogy and Petrology – Technische Universitaet Karlsruhe (1971) and PhD in Mineralogy and Petrology – Technische Universitaet Karlsruhe (1973). He is currently associate professor MS5 at the University of São Paulo and a reviewer of the Diamond News magazine. Has experience in the area of Geosciences, with emphasis on Gemology, working mainly in the following subjects: Gemology especially Diamonds and Colombian emeralds, mineralogy and mineral color.
Dr. Karl Schmetzer
Dr. Karl Schmetzer is an independent Gemmology Researcher and consultant based in Petershausen, Germany, near Munich. He specializes in the mineralogy of gemstones, characterization of natural and synthetic gem materials, description of new gemstones and new gem localities, causes of colour and colour changes produced through treatment, and differentiation of natural gemstones from their synthetic counterparts. As prolific author, Dr. Schmetzer has produced nearly 400 papers and articles, mostly in English and German, which have been published in the major gemmological journals, including Gems & Gemology, Journal of Gemmology, Neues Jahrbuch fur Mineralogie Monatshefte.
He is a member of the editorial board of the of the British, French and Australian gemmological journals. He is the German delegate to the International Gemmological Conference.
